At Latymer All Saints we believe that the study of our high-quality geography curriculum will inspire our children’s curiosity, fascination and sense of awe and wonder about the world they live in and its people: a mind-set which will remain with them for life.

We teach geography using the Kapow scheme of work to ensure full coverage of the content and skills set out in the national curriculum. Our choice of topics are planned and sequenced so that all aspects of knowledge, skills and vocabulary are taught across all year groups and build on prior learning (teachers are expected to know what has been taught previously as well as having a secure understanding of what needs to be taught to ensure repetition and building on prior knowledge are effective).
All substantive knowledge areas are covered in our curriculum: locational knowledge, place knowledge, human, physical and environmental knowledge and geographical skill.
Disciplinary knowledge (thinking like geographers) is embedded into the skills our children develop to make sense of their world, for instance through reading maps and carrying out fieldwork investigations.
An integral part of our provision is a rich variety of educational visits and fieldwork experiences, which ensure our children gain geographical knowledge and skills and enjoy their learning.

When our pupils leave Latymer All Saints they are equipped as inquisitive learners to explore, navigate and understand the world around them, and aspire to research and explore further learning throughout their lives.
Through regular pupil voice discussions, data scrutiny of 5 key children per class and the monitoring of work outcomes (in books and on display), we assess how confidently the children can talk about the skills and knowledge they have acquired.
